MBBS, MS, MA (Medical Ethics & Law), FRCS, FRCS (General Surgery) was born in Kumasi, Ghana, schooled in Manchester, and trained as a general surgeon in Pune (BJMC ‘83 Batch, General Surgery Residency Sassoon Hospitals ‘89-91), India.

He returned to the UK in 1993 and trained in hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery and liver transplantation in London, at the Royal Free Hospital and Royal London Hospital. He has been Consultant HPB & Trauma Surgeon at Barts Health since 2005, and is Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary University, London. His specialist surgical interests include diseases of the liver, bile duct and pancreas, related laparoscopic & robotic surgery, trauma, and emergency surgery; and he also has a Masters in Medical Ethics & Law.

His other areas of interest are clinical leadership, quality improvement and patient safety and he was Health Foundation QI Fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and at Harvard 2011-12. He was Associate Medical Director for Improvement, Innovation & Safety at Barts Health, 2013-14 and Executive Group Director for the Surgery & Cancer Clinical Academic Group, 2014-2016.

Ajit was appointed Barts Health Deputy Chief Medical Officer in July 2016 with responsibility for embedding quality improvement and patient safety across the Barts Health system, and balanced a busy surgical workload with the additional leadership responsibility of Chair of the Barts Health Surgery Board, helping shape the future surgical strategy for East London.

He is also the Principal of ‘The Staff College’ for ‘Leadership in Healthcare’. Ajit is currently Senior Consultant in HPB, General and Trauma Surgery at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Singapore on an 18 month surgical sabbatical. He has a long standing practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and Vipassana meditation.

She is a Senior Staff Physician at Henry Ford Hospital Michigan, doing patient care and teaching ID fellows, residents and medical students.

She is also involved in a number of activities with the College of Intensive Care Medicine, including being a current board member and Deputy Chair of the Fellowship Examination.

Professor Sheila Myatra works in Asia’s largest cancer hospital since 20 years. She is a consultant critical care specialist attending to a 23 bed mixed medical-surgical ICU. She is a teacher for Medical Council of India’s recognized Critical Care super specialization programme (DM Critical Care) of the Homi Bhabha National University, Mumbai.

She is currently secretary elect of the Indian College of Critical Care Medicine of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) formerly accreditation secretary and has been actively involved with the national society as past treasurer, executive committee member and chairman of the Mumbai branch of ISCCM. She is also the current President, past general secretary and founder member of the national airway society "All India Difficult Airway Association" (AIDAA).

She is the lead author of the first published ICU airway guideline - “Guidelines for Tracheal Intubation in the ICU” and the guideline on “Unanticipated Difficult Tracheal Intubation in Adults” by AIDAA. She conducted the first national sedation survey and is the lead author of the end of life care guidelines for India.

Her research interests include difficult airway management, functional hemodynamic monitoring, ICU sedation and end of life care. She has recently developed a new test in hemodynamic monitoring called the “tidal volume challenge” published in Critical Care Medicine in March 2017. She is appointed member of the editorial board of Intensive Care Medicine from January 2019. She was awarded the FICCM (Fellowship of Indian college of Critical Care Medicine) by Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) in 2013 and Fellowship of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM) by the American College of Critical Care Medicine (ACCM) in 2015. Four-time recipient of the President Citation by the President of the ISCCM 2012,2013,2015 and 2017) for contribution to the society and the field of Critical Care in the country. Also awarded, the “Hargobind National Medical Scholarship” in 2001 to train in Critical Care at MSKCC (New York), USA.
